Ok so its April and the sun can’t make up its mind whether to put in an appearance or not, but after all we do live in the United Kingdom, and we ought to be used to its elusiveness by now, and plan accordingly. However, that’s no excuse not to add some spring sunshine into our homes with a fresh new look, perhaps with a designer rug, sofa throw??

To start, why not walk around and take an objective look at your home, room by room, and make a list of what you would like to change? It could be a total makeover from wall colour to carpets and curtains and blinds, or something simple like a new lamp, designer rug, sofa throw or some different cushions? My landing lamp mysteriously broke recently (Kids) and having replaced it with a new, brighter and more contemporary one, that space looks so much fresher and more appealing, in fact I’m now inspired to redecorate which wasn’t really in my plans at all!

Mothers Day Gifts

Its that time of year again, slight stirrings of Spring are in the air, and reminders everywhere that March 18th is Mothers Day. Not that we really need a reminder that our Mothers play a vital role in all our lives, or of what we do for our own children, but a card and a gift are always welcome, whatever the size.

Homemade gifts are something to cherish forever, and we all have a wonky little item our son or daughter proudly brought home from school, on the kitchen windowsill or on a shelf at home taking pride of place. As adults though, few of us have the time unfortunately these days to produce a home made token to give to our Mother, and that is where the internet is there to help us. A personalised card is easy to put together and order, and is a lovely touch when it lands on the doormat. Once the cards have been put way, its great if you’ve also given her a thoughtful gift.

We’ve finally waved goodbye to a long and dreary January, and now its only a week to go to Valentine’s Day, so why not try to be extra organised this year and plan ahead for the gift that your loved one will receive, rather than a last minute, rushed thought on your way home the day before, or on the day itself! The start of a new year is always a bit flat. We’ve stored away the Wine Coolers after the party season, too cold for outdoor events, so we hide away, snuggled up under our sofa throws and wait for warmer weather. But why not make the most of being indoors to take advantage of the sales? Its a great time of year to stock up on items that have a healthy discount, and you can find some beautiful items to brighten up your home.

Ok, so the big day is now only 11 days away, and there’s always the extra gift that has to be found and bought. With so much to do, we all need as much help and inspiration as we can find, as time seems to run away so fast! I love to have lots of gorgeous smelling candles burning at home at this time of year, and I especially love True Grace’s range of scents. Food for thought

If you were to walk around Chelsea this time of year you will fail to spot silver people carriers ferrying busy designers in a zealous enthusiasm to catch the latest trends for the interior design world. Suppliers to our industry showcase their new wares in the large marquee in Royal Hospital Road and in their showrooms in the Harbour at Decorex and Focus respectively.

For me, I see this time of year as an opportunity to catch up with suppliers. Touching base is usually seduced by a glass of something chilled and bubbly which always goes down well with the occasional miniature fishcake. And then there’s the party, and the pre party drinks and the after show drinks and arriving back into the office the morning as I go through my bag of brochures, I find myself asking, did I really accomplish anything other than a lingering headache? Oh yes! Inspiration!

For the coming months I have had a feast of ideas thrown at me. New products, new ideas on how to use products, new ways to use colour as well as the new suppliers. This is what we really want to see. something that no-one has seen before. Products I can show my clients and customers and they can be the first to have the new look. And as you admire you new accessory sitting beautifully on your coffee table. Well then all the glasses consumed and canapes devoured will be in a good cause and perhaps I’ll redeem myself….until next year!
